Anthropic’s IPO Woes: Can It Survive the Government’s Wrath?

(SeaPRwire) –   By: Oliver Hawthorne
Anthropic aims to go public this fall, claiming to lead the enterprise AI market. But a big problem looms: the U.S. government is its enemy. Twice blacklisted, its nearly $1 trillion valuation is in question.
On Friday, Anthropic took Fable 5 and Mythos 5 offline due to Commerce Department export controls. In March, it was blacklisted over security concerns. War Secretary Pete Hegseth said kicking Anthropic out was right. The Department of War moved most AI workflows off Anthropic’s models. Cloud analyst David Linthicum said regulatory risk is real. Reactive regulation has a “chilling effect” on research.
Amazon, an Anthropic investor, may have triggered the export control. Amazon researchers found Fable could reveal software vulnerabilities. Some think Amazon was genuinely worried; others are cynical as it has a stake in the competition. The danger of the flaw is debated. Anthropic says it’s minor, and rival models can do the same. Jailbreaks are a cat – and – mouse game. Overall, Anthropic’s battle with the government will likely reshape the AI market.
